Let’s nerd out over the Pirates’ ‘Game of Thrones’ lineup intro
The pirates of yore were known for never paying their debts, but the Pittsburgh Pirates can still appreciate the Lannisters. The team has paid homage to Westeros’ most-hated family, and the rest of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world with an excellent “Game of Thrones” themed starting lineup intro video this season.
In case you aren’t one of the many fans who watch “Game of Thones” each week, here’s what the show’s intro looks like:
Yeah, we have to say, the Pirates did a pretty good job here.
The whole thing has us wondering about the lore of House Pittsburgh Pirates. Obviously, everyone remembers the Reds Wedding, you know, when they beat the Cincinnati Reds 23-4 on April 27, 1912. We also can’t forget their house words, “Our Bats Are Sharp.” They may have borrowed a bit from House Bolton there.
[Elsewhere: An outfielder pitched to Bryce Harper and lived to talk about it]
The bigger question is whether the Pirates are the team that was promised? You could make a pretty compelling case that their outfield is a three-headed dragon. Whether the Pirates can complete the prophesy before Martin finishes his books remains to be seen.
