Manny Machado punches Yordano Ventura in bench-clearing brawl
Baltimore Orioles’ slugger Manny Machado took a fifth-inning pitch in the side from Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura on Tuesday night and immediately charged the mound landing a punch to Ventura’s face as the benches and bullpens cleared.
Ventura then took Machado to the ground but he never really got a punch in because of the pile of players who converged on the two.
Machado and Ventura were ejected for a fight that began brewing earlier. No other players or managers were tossed from the game.

Machado doubled to left field in the first inning off Ventura. In the third inning, Ventura threw several pitches inside and then got Machado to fly out to left field. Machado was caught talking to Ventura as he walked toward first base. So it was probably no surprise that Ventura hit him with a pitch the next time Machado came to the plate.
Ventura’s pitch seemed to catch Kansas City catcher Salavador Perez by surprise because he didn’t react quickly and try to stop Machado from going after his pitcher.

When things cooled down, Chien-Ming Wang came on to pitch for the Royals, but the Orioles took out their frustrations on him as Mark Trumbo and Chris Davis hit back-to-back home runs off him to extend Baltimore’s lead to 8-1.
Suspensions are likely to come in the aftermath of the fight sometime in the next week.
