Craig Sager gets full Wrigley experience for ‘Conquer Cancer Day’

The Chicago Cubs hosted “Conquer Cancer Day,’ on Wednesday and Craig Sager, the iconic sideline reporters best known for his work on TNT’s NBA coverage whose fight against leukemiaA lifelong Cubs fan who grew up in the Chicago suburb Batavia and attended Northwestern University in nearby Evanston, Ill., Sager has traveled the world during his career as a broadcaster but his love for the Cubs never wavered.

“I’ve done World Cup soccer, Wimbledon, the Olympics, the NBA, Super Bowls, everything … Kentucky Derbys, Indy 500s,” said Sager, 64, who has worked 34 years at Turner. “There really was nothing I could think of that I hadn’t done. Then I talked to the Cubs about this and said, ‘Oh my God, I hadn’t even thought about that.’
So here he was at Wrigley Field, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to cancer survivor Anthony Rizzo:
And then leading the Cubs’ faithful in a spirited rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch:

With his family and friends in attendance and a chance to reconenct with his childhood idol Billy Williams, it was a special night for Sager. Sager revealed his leukemia had returned in March after being in remission but he continues to receive treatment and as he saw Wednesday night at Wrigley continues to live life to the fullest and inspire everyone he comes across.
