Recently dismissed Texas Tech lineman charged with felony
A recently dismissed Texas Tech player was arrested on Friday.
According to the Lubbock Avalance-Journal, Robert Castaneda is facing a felony burglary charge and was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center. His second-degree felony burglary of a habitation charge is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Records show Castaneda was released on $5,000 bond. According to EverythingLubbock.com, Castaneda’s name “is associated” with a police report number assigned to a burglary said to have occurred between Dec. 20 and Jan. 9.

A police report listed two victims, ages 23 and 24, who reside in the 4300 block of 43rd Street. EverythingLubbock.com chose not to publish their names at this time.
According to the police report, items were taken from a home, including, a Smith & Wesson 5-shot revolver worth $600, an AR-15 rifle worth $2,500, an M1 worth $3,500, a lever-action rifle worth $600, a bolt-action rifle worth $1,350, a 12-gauge shotgun worth $1,800, a classic sporter shotgun worth $3,700, a Brinks gun safe worth, $1,300, a digital camera worth $2,300, and a 40-inch flatscreen TV worth $500.
Castaneda, an offensive lineman, was removed from Texas Tech’s roster by head coach Kliff Kingsbury on May 5 “due to a failure to uphold student-athlete expectations.”
Castaneda, 20, was set to be a redshirt sophomore for the Red Raiders in 2016. After playing in all 13 games as a reserve in 2015, he was practicing with the first-team offense throughout spring ball.
Sophomore linebacker Dakota Allen and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Trace Ellison were also dismissed from the program alongside Castaneda on May 5. Allen and Ellison “were not listed” in jail records, according to EverythingLubbock.com.
