Fizdale-to-Grizzlies gaining steam, sources say
The candidacy of Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale for the Memphis Grizzlies‘ coaching job is gaining steam, according to league sources.
One source close to the process told ESPN.com on Tuesday night that Fizdale had moved into the lead in Memphis’ search, which initially targeted former Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel, who instead took the Orlando Magic job.
Sources say Fizdale’s strong first interview with the Grizzlies earned him a return visit to Memphis for a second meeting with team officials.
Heading into this week, Fizdale was widely regarded as a co-finalist for the position with San Antonio Spurs assistant coach James Borrego, who is also a candidate for the Houston Rockets‘ coaching vacancy.
ESPN.com reported earlier Tuesday that Borrego has progressed to a face-to-face meeting later this week with Rockets owner Leslie Alexander after Borrego’s initial meeting with Rockets officials on Monday.
