Red Sox fan risks injury going for piece of David Ortiz’s final season
One Boston Red Sox fan showed Sunday how some are willing to put in a little extra effort and risk some bumps and bruises or worse to get a piece of memorabilia from retiring slugger David Ortiz.
Boston’s beloved designated hitter had another big game in front of the home crowd at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 5-2. Ortiz went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a walk. One of those hits was a ground-rule double that bounced into the seats in right-center field in the second inning.

A man wearing a Boston sweatshirt moved to his left and leaped into the air trying to snag the ball with an outstretched hand only to miss and land on his hands and knees on the concrete colliding with a seat.
Hats off to him for the effort. Can’t blame him for wanting the ball so badly considering what Ortiz has meant to Boston over the years and how well Ortiz is playing in what is supposed to be his final season. It certainly seems like Ortiz plans to leave them wanting more when he retires.

Ortiz, who is 40, finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle and is hitting .329 40 games into his final season. It’s hard to believe the guy is hanging it up.
