Matt Shoemaker made a kick save in addition to his 12 strikeouts
Los Angeles Angels starter Matt Shoemaker had an impressive outing Saturday night in a 3-1 loss to Baltimore.

Shoemaker struck out 12 Orioles and gave up only three hits over 71/3 innings, but got stuck with a no decision thanks to a lack of run support. Maybe the best moment, or at least the most unusual, came in the top of the third inning when Baltimore’s Ryan Flaherty hit a ball back up the middle that Shoemaker stopped with a kick save.
Shoemaker was obviously just trying to knock the ball down, but he inadvertently sent it back near catcher Jett Bandy, who picked it up and fired to first base to get the 1-2-3 putout to end the inning. You don’t see that every day.

Considering how badly Shoemaker has struggled so far this season, this might be the highlight of the year so far for him. Despite the stellar performance against Baltimore, he is still carrying a 6.81 ERA. At least he had something to smile about for a few minutes Saturday.
