John Quenneville scores goal of the year in Memorial Cup (Video)
The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and the Brandon Wheat Kings battled in the Memorial Cup on Saturday night, as the Canadian junior tournament rolled on in Red Deer.
In the third period, John Quenneville of the Wheat Kings combined with Ivan Provorov for what might be the goal of 2016 so far.
Provorov, a 2015 draft pick by the Philadelphia Flyers, fired a perfect outlet pass through two sets of Huskies defenders to a streaking Quenneville.
And then it was Quenneville’s turn to dazzle. He kicked up his right leg to deke goalie Chase Marchand. He then tucked the puck between his legs along with his stick, and flicked the puck high over Marchand.
“What a move” indeed. A couple of other angles:
Alas, the Huskies defeated the Wheat Kings, 5-3.
Quenneville was taken No. 30 overall in 2014 by the New Jersey Devils. So it’s nice to see him and Provorov working together before one tries to demolish the other in the NHL.
