Reports: Angels finalize deal with Tim Lincecum
The Angels have finalized a contract with free agent right-hander Tim Lincecum, according to reports by MLB Network’s Jon Heyman and MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez. The deal will reportedly pay Lincecum around $2 million for the remainder of the 2016 season with the opportunity to make an additional $1.7 million in incentives.
Lincecum, 31, has been working his way back from September hip surgery, and he’ll likely need some innings at Triple-A before he’s ready to join the big-league rotation. Lincecum enjoyed an exceptional start to his career, as he won back-to-back NL Cy Young awards for the Giants. Since the start of the 2012 season, however, he’s pitched to a 4.68 ERA (75 ERA+) and 2.16 K/BB ratio. The hope, though, is that Lincecum performs better now that he’s healthy and perhaps ready to get some velocity back.
On the Angels’ side of things, they’re certainly desperate. They’re still without C.J. Wilson, and Garrett Richards and Andrew Heaney are both sidelined with potentially serious elbow injuries. As well, stalwart Jered Weaver has shown signs of further decline thus far in 2016.
