From bad to worst: Matt Harvey gets rocked again in Mets loss
It’s gone from bad to worst for Matt Harvey, as he turned in the worst start of his career Thursday night in the Mets’ 9-1 loss to the Washington Nationals.
Just how bad was it? Harvey even gave up a hit to Bryce Harper, who was 0-for-21 against the Mets right-hander before a third-inning single snapped the skid. It was one of eight hits Harvey allowed in 2 2/3 innings and all nine runs the Nationals scored came while he was on the mound, with six of them being earned.

It was the shortest start Harvey has had in the major leagues and the Queens crowd booed him off the field when he was mercifully pulled from the game in the third after Washington put up seven runs in the inning.
Harvey’s velocity is down (from 96 mph in 2015 to 94 mph in 2016) and his ERA is now up to 5.77 (from 2.71 last season). He spoke to mechanical adjustments he needed to make to find comfort in his delivery heading into Thursday’s outing, but the results continue to show he’s still searching for answers. After the game Mets manager Terry Collins said he would consider skipping Harvey’s next start, scheduled to be next Tuesday against these same Nationals.
Making matters even more painful on this particular night? Stephen Strasburg improved to 7-0 with the win, making the days when fans at Citi Field chanted “Harvey’s better” a distant memory.
