Bartolo Colon home run bobblehead has unexpected jiggle
limited edition baseball card. A slightly weird looking tattoo. A mash-up with the famous home run scene from the movie “The Natural.” And an imaginary “30 for 30” trailer. But this particular tribute to Colon’s home run truly celebrates every part of the pitcher.
New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon’s home run is only 13 days old, but it’s already become legendary. And befitting such a legend, there are already numerous tributes. There was a[Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now]
ClarkToys.com has started taking pre-orders for this commemorative bobblehead from Forever Collectibles.
There is a lot going on there, and it’s all amazing. The designer of the bobblehead has Colon hitting his dinger in front of the Citi Field apple, moving the setting from Petco Park to the Mets’ home field. It’s fitting, since that’s where many fans probably wish Colon had hit his home run. He’s hitting the homer on top of a newspaper with the headline “Oldest Pitcher in MLB History Hits a Home Run,” and the date of May 7, 2016 is next to it along with a picture of the event in progress.
Colon himself is at the end of his majestic swing, looking toward the sky at his home run ball with a Bartolo-ish half-smile on his face. But these next details are what really turns this bobblehead from “that’s nice” to “I MUST OWN THIS IMMEDIATELY.” Of course, the head bobbles, though sadly it doesn’t seem like the helmet comes off. But the mock-up indicates that the head isn’t the only thing that will bobble. Colon’s stomach also bobbles!
You can see from the image that it’s not meant to mock Colon. While most of the little statue isn’t grounded in reality, Colon’s stomach isn’t grossly exaggerated. However, it’s important to remember that the picture isn’t of the actual bobblehead. It’s just in pre-order right now, so the image is just a mock-up of the final product. Hopefully the finished bobblehead will include the bobbling stomach, but in the tasteful and fun way that’s indicated in the picture.
It doesn’t seem like Forever Collectibles means Bartolo any disrespect. They want to honor his accomplishment, and the man himself, in a special way. Colon certainly isn’t ashamed of his figure, so why should anyone else be? After all, they don’t call him Big Sexy for nothing.
