Pitt returns to old script logo, unveils new uniforms (Video)
Pittsburgh has officially returned to its classic script logo and updated its uniforms in the process.
The school used the script logo, which is beloved by fans, from 1973 to 1996 before introducing a block-style logo. Below is the block logo, which will now be a thing of the past.
The script logo worked its way back into rotation on the football team’s helmets in October 2014. Former Panthers athletic director Scott Pederson planned to keep the script on the football helmets only while continuing to use the block logo with all other sports. Pederson was fired in December 2014 and new AD Scott Barnes (hired in April 2015) made it clear early on that the athletics department needed to commit to one look.

“We are excited to make the full transition back to the script logo,” Barnes said in a statement. “Not only will this move help unify our branding efforts, it also gives us an opportunity to celebrate the amazing history of Pitt Athletics.”
The new logo and uniforms (for all sports) were unveiled at an on-campus event Wednesday. Take a look at the script in action on the football team’s new jerseys:
The script logo will now be Pitt’s primary logo for the athletic department moving forward.
