Phil Kessel wonders why Pierre McGuire asks about bad breath (Video)
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Phil Kessel was confused by question from NHL on NBC analyst Pierre McGuire, which led to a funny exchange between the two.
After the Penguins downed the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2, McGuire asked Kessel, “How’s your breath?”
Kessel then responded with, “It’s not good eh?” thinking the odor from his mouth was stinky. McGuire then chuckled and said, “No! I meant in terms of conditioning.”
The Penguins sniper then gave a big throaty laugh and then proceeded to answer the question. As the interview wrapped up Kessel yelled “I can’t believe that.”
Beyond the confusion on the question, Kessel’s conditioning is also hot button issue with the forward, though it didn’t seem like McGuire was trying to pry into Kessel’s fitness.
This would qualify as one of McGuire’s more hilarious broadcast moments from this season. Earlier in the year, he had trouble distinguishing the difference between Detroit Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill and assistant coach Pat Ferschweiler because both are bald. McGuire also slapped Penguins forward Matt Cullen on the butt after a pre-game interview during the second-round of the playoffs.
Before this game, McGuire showed a montage of dangerous and penalized hits from Tampa in Game 1 as a template for how the Lightning could win Game 3.
This came one day after NBCSN analyst Mike Milbury was criticized after he said the St. Louis Blues needed to ramp up their physicality when taking penalties by injuring the San Jose Sharks.
