Thornton then went to the bench where a Sharks trainer tried to find the puck. He seemed to look all over Thornton, underneath his jersey, in his pants and in his pads. Thornton also seemed perplexed as to where the puck was.
After several seconds he cracked a bit of a smile.
The hilarity of the situation hid the fact that it was an excellent scoring chance for the Sharks, with Thornton lined up in front of Blues goaltender Brian Elliott by himself.
Thornton didn’t miss a shift, so it’s believed the puck was eventually found.
This brings back some memories of overtime of Game 4 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators last year. There, Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne lost a puck in his equipment and in that case a delay lasted three minutes before the puck was found.
