Strat-O-Matic creates new cards for Bryce Harper and Bartolo Colon
The most wonderful thing about baseball is never knowing what you’ll see on a given day.
In one game, you might witness history, such as we did Wednsday in Max Scherzer’s 20-strikeout game. In another, you might witness futility, such as the A’s allowing at least 13 runs for the third straight game in Boston. In another still, you might see something so different that it changes the way you watch the game the following day.

If you were following along this past weekend, you’re aware we saw a little of all those things in one form or another. However, the two moments and/or performances that stood out were Bartolo Colon’s first career home run Saturday night in San Diego and Bryce Harper’s six-walk game against the Cubs on Sunday afternoon.
Both moments were historic, as Colon became the oldest player in MLB history to hit his first career home run, while Harper became the first to reach base seven times in a single game without getting an official at-bat. Both may also change the way some viewers watch the game, as they both showed there truly are no limits.
Beyond that, if you’re into rolling the dice and playing a little Strat-O-Matic baseball with your friends or colleagues, both would absolutely change the game if you could get your hands on these cards.
On the left is how Colon’s card for the season would look. It’s a home run or nothing, as Colon hasn’t wasted time yet with any singles, doubles, triples or walks. There’s also the strikeout plus injury, which plays on Colon’s usual awkwardness at the plate. The only thing missing is the strikeout plus loses helmet.
On the right, we see Harper’s Strat-O-Matic card as it pertains to the Cubs’ strategy to avoid his bat at all costs. Nationals pitcher Tanner Roark called that strategy “scared baseball.” The Cubs called it “smart baseball.” We’re sure you have an opinion too, but the bottomline is it doesn’t leave an opening for any other result.

As always, these Strat-O-Matic cards give us a unique perspective of what’s going on around baseball. When they focus on special moments such as these, they can also put a fun spin on it. We don’t think you’ll be seeing either of these cards showing up in your next game, but you might wish they had when your opponent rolls another Harper home run.
