Bryce Harper, other MLB stars honor their moms in New Era videos
For some, Mother’s Day is a day of reflection. For others, it’s a day to honor the person who gave them life, gave them direction and gave them the confidence to chase their dreams.
For Major League Baseball players, it’s a chance to do all of that while also providing entertainment and memories that will bring other families together.

As major-league players will tell you, playing on Mother’s Day has a different feeling than most days throughout their 162-game season. It’s a day packed with emotion, because just about every player who takes that field will have a memory of how their mom helped lay the groundwork for their career. That gives it a different vibe, an extra significance perhaps, that can’t be manufactured.
Over the years, we’ve heard many of the stories of the roles moms played in helping their future major leaguers. In many cases, they were the ones instilling the passion and teaching the fundamentals. I was never a professional player, but I was always one of the best fielders around because of the hours my mom and grandma spent hitting me ground balls in the yard. I’ve never forgotten those moments.
Whatever their role was, it’s always nice to acknowledge it and show appreciation. That’s what several of MLB’s top stars — including Bryce Harper, David Ortiz and Andrew McCutchen — are doing in these special Mother’s Day videos from New Era.
New Era will have distinct presence around MLB on Sunday. The league will continue its tradition of going pink on Mother’s Day. However, there will be a new wrinkle this time around as the league incorporates pink-accented caps —created by New Era — and jerseys, on top of the usual accessories and bats we’ve become accustomed to.
This will actually mark the first time ever that every player across MLB will be wearing a New Era cap.

As always, MLB will donate its licensed uniform royalties to Susan G. Komen and Stand Up to Cancer, so the new looks aren’t just for style. There’s some substance there too, and a hope that someday there will be a cure for breast cancer.
