NHL Three Stars: Eakin, Fisher win it in OT to even series
No. 1 Star: Mike Fisher, Nashville Predators
Fisher scored two goals in the 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks. His first goal put the Predators ahead by one in the first period. His second came in triple overtime to win the game.
No. 2 Star: Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators
Rinne played one of his best games of the playoffs in the match that felt like it would never end. He faced 47 shots in total and only allowed 3 goals.
No. 3 Star: Cody Eakin, Dallas Stars
Unlike the Preds and Sharks, the Stars and St. Louis Blues only needed less than three minutes of the first overtime to wrap things up. Eakin sniped a shot over the shoulder of Brian Elliott into the top corner for the win.
Honorable Mention: Martin Jones faced 45 shots and made 40 saves. Colin Wilson extended his playoff scoring streak to five games; he had a goal and 2 assists against San Jose. Brent Burns led the Sharks with 8 shots and 2 goals; in total he had 20 shot attempts. Logan Couture and Paul Martin picked up two points. Shea Weber and Roman Josi led both teams in TOI with 49:07 and 49:42, respectively … Paul Stastny scored a goal and was 19-9 on the faceoff dot. He also led both teams with 8 shots on goal. In second place was Patrick Sharp with 7. Both teams’ power plays were 1 for 3.
Did You Know?
Dishonorable Mention: Shea Weber took dumb penalties second and third overtime periods that could have cost his team dearly. The first was only two minutes for high sticking when it could have easily been four, but the blood from Paul Martin’s nose (that was on jersey, too) was somehow determined to be from earlier cut. Sharks could have won the game in overtime if it wasn’t for a controversial no goal call. Pontus Adberg played a total of 4:59 for the Preds in a 3 OT game … Brett Ritchie did not play a shift after exiting the ice with 2:42 left in the second. Travis Moen played only 4:26 over 8 shifts; he had one shift in the third period. Kyle Brodziak (5:02) and Ryan Reaves (4:32) only played one shift in the third period.
