Tonight is the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and while the top two picks appear to be set in stone, there is a lot of confusion after that. Fans of the Dallas Cowboys are really just focused on what will happen with the number four selection and who the team will take. As of now, it’s getting too close to make a lot of changes, and a decision needs to be made. The NFL experts have released their final mock drafts, and most seem split on who the Cowboys will draft.
While many are leaning in one direction, there are still three picks ahead of the Cowboys tonight. That is, unless they trade up, but it isn’t likely. Some have thought that they would go for a quarterback, but Carson Wentz and Jared Goff are expected to be gone by the number four pick.
Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch has been attached to the Cowboys in rumors for months, but he may not be worthy of such a high draft choice. If Dallas trades down at all, they could lean more toward taking Lynch around number 10 or in the teens.

Mike Mayock of NFL.com believes that it will be Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott who is chosen by the Cowboys. Yes, they do have Darren McFadden, who was fourth in the league in rushing last year, but he’s a huge injury risk, and the Cowboys need consistency behind Tony Romo.
ESPN analyst Todd McShay has released his final mock draft for the year, and he has Florida State cornerback Jalen Ramsey landing with Dallas. McShay does believe it is between Ramsey and Elliott, though, and that it’s going to be a tough decision for the Cowboys to make.
Over at CBS Sports, there is a bit of butting heads when it comes to the Cowboys’ pick. Three are in favor of Dallas taking Ramsey, but two of the experts think that defensive end Joey Bosa of Ohio State could also shore up the line in Big D.
- Ron Rang – Joey Bosa
- Dane Brugler – Jalen Ramsey
- Pete Prisco – Jalen Ramsey
- Will Brinson – Joey Bosa
- Jared Dubin – Jalen Ramsey
More and more have the Cowboys steering away from Paxton Lynch, and some mock drafts have him falling completely out of the teens. If he keeps falling, the Cowboys may look to trade into the bottom half of the first round and take him.

The overwhelming choice seems to be on defense for the Cowboys when it is their turn to step up and make the pick. Bleacher Report has them taking Jalen Ramsey, as do so many others. If it’s not Ramsey, though, the mock drafts are leaning toward Ezekiel Elliott just as SB Nation has the Cowboys taking.
Dallas has a number of options, but the top two quarterbacks are going to be off the board after the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles pick first and second. The San Diego Chargers are a bit of a wild card, but no matter who they draft, the Cowboys will still have great selections available.
The Dallas Cowboys certainly have a lot of needs that need to be met in the 2016 NFL Draft, and they will have a lot of options by picking at number four. Paxton Lynch is one, but he is expected to drop a bit lower. Right now, it really seems as if running back Ezekiel Elliott or cornerback Jalen Ramsey will have a Cowboys jersey by the time the night is over. That is, if the mock drafts of the NFL experts have any credibility to them.
