Former Baylor star DE Shawn Oakman accused of assault in 2013
Former Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman was accused of assault by an ex-girlfriend in 2013, according to a report from Rivals’ Alex Dunlap.
The police report states Oakman was accused of grabbing the alleged victim, shoving her into a wall and other various things.
The alleged victim declined to press charges. However, Dunlap asserts the school knew about the incident, but declined to discipline Oakman.
Oakman was arrested earlier this month for an alleged assault against a female Baylor student after the two left a nightclub.
Baylor has been under immense scrutiny lately about their handling of sexual assaults involving student athletes. Two other players were investigated for sexual assualt in 2013 adn the school wait until 2015 to investigate. Two former Baylor football players, Tevin Elliott and Sam Ukwuachu, were convicted of sexual assault in the past two years yet the school didn;t disclose the assault claims.
Elliott was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2014, and Ukwuachu was sentenced to 10 years felony probation and 180 days in county jail last August.
Baylor also is in the midst of a Title IX case brought by Elliott’s victim, who stated the school was “indifferent to her report of sexual assault and knew of Elliott’s proclivity toward violence against women.”
