No one is buying Derek Jeter’s hole-in-one video
New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter is enjoying the retired life these days. That much we would have assumed even without Friday’s video that shows him on the golf course at his annual celebrity invitational tournament in Las Vegas.

What we’re attempting to assertain though is just how a good a golfer Jeter truly is. Because as the same video clearly suggests, he aced one of the holes like he’s Davis Love III or Shane Lowry at the Masters.
The video in question was posted by Jeter’s sister, Sharlee, who is also the president of his Turn 2 Foundation. It’s a charity event, so everything they’re doing is ultimately for a good cause, but it’s difficult to get past what appears to be a staged event.
As Brendan Kuty of the Star Ledger writes:
We don’t doubt that Derek Jeter is a decent golfer. He’s probably good at everything. That’s just how life works sometimes.
Give Jeter a Rubik’s Cube, he’ll probably solve it. Give him a basketball, he’ll probably swish it from half court, backward.
But this hole-in-one video … not buying it.
Jeter allegedly aces the hole, at least from his reaction and the cheers of everyone around him. And then he poses with an SUV parked right to the tee as the hole-in-one prize. It’s all very phony.
Based on the smirk on Jeter’s face before he even tees off, he was either very confident or he knew they were pranking the masses. We’ll go with that latter, especially since there’s no real evidence the ball went in the cup. In fact, we’re not even sure the ball landed before the crowd erupted into cheers. If so, then maybe he knocked it in on the fly.

This isn’t to say Derek Jeter didn’t hit a hole-in-one on Friday, or that he’s not capable. But this also isn’t to say that’s he not capable of having a little harmless fun at our expense while drawing more attention to his tournament and his foundation.
We’ll let your decide where the truth (and Jeter’s golf shot) ultimately lie.
