Houston players donate water for flood victims (Photos)
A group of University of Houston players donated 24 cases of water to help flood victims in need.
Junior offensive tackle Na’Ty Rodgers and his girlfriend spearheaded the effort after classes were cancelled for the second consecutive day due to severe storms that caused massive flooding throughout the area. Rodgers called some of his teammates and asked if they’d be willing to donate a little money to help buy water.
In the end, 13 players chipped in.

“It wasn’t a lot of money, like maybe 10 bucks a person at least,” Rodgers told SB Nation.
Eight players, including quarterback Greg Ward, bought the water at local grocery stores and delivered it to the campus alumni center. Houston athletic officials were not aware of the player-led effort until the water started showing up.

Most of Houston’s players were not affected by the storms because they either live near or on campus. The majority of the floodwaters have occurred in the north and west areas of the city.
Rodgers, a native of Maryland, has only been in Houston since February, but still felt a drive to help.

“We get snow in Maryland, that’s about it,” Rodgers told SB Nation. “But you never know when you’re going to be the person who needs help. If I was just a regular person who moved here a few months ago and this flood happened to me, I would want someone to come help. We just figured it was a good thing to do.”
