Penguins win at MSG for 2-1 lead over Rangers
When 39-year-old Matt Cullen signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins over the summer it was a move that probably did not get much attention.
It has turned out to be one of the best value signings in the league.
After scoring 15 goals during the regular season for the Penguins and providing some much-needed scoring depth, he made a big impact for them in their 3-1 Game 3 win over the New York Rangers on Tuesday to give them a 2-1 lead in the series.
With the game tied early in the third period, Cullen forced the Rangers’ defense into a big mistake that not only gave him a clear breakaway on Henrik Lundqvist, but also allowed him to score his first goal of the playoffs and what would also be the winning goal.

As the puck gets knocked up to the Rangers’ blue line, defensemen Dan Boyle and Keith Yandle can’t make a clean play on it as Cullen skates in, knocks the puck away from them, and slides through as they collide with each other.
After a sloppy start, the Penguins pretty much took over in the second half of the game and scored three consecutive goals to pick up the win while holding the Rangers to only 17 shots on goal for the game.
