LaRoche: 'Zero regrets' over leaving White Sox
Last month, veteran first baseman Adam LaRoche abruptly retired after White Sox vice president Kenny Williams reportedly told him his 14-year-old son Drake was no longer allowed in the clubhouse. ChiSox players, most notably Chris Sale, were very unhappy with the situation.
On Tuesday, LaRoche appeared on Good Morning America to discuss his decision to walk away from the game he played his entire life, not to mention his $13 million salary. Here’s the video:
“I haven’t lost an ounce of sleep,” said LaRoche. “I have zero regrets.”
LaRoche, now 36, reiterated that he thinks Drake will learn better life lessons in a big league clubhouse than he could in a classroom. Drake was with the White Sox — and LaRoche’s previous teams, for that matter — pretty much every day, so he was homeschooled.
I don’t think it was at all unreasonable for the White Sox to ask LaRoche to scale back Drake’s time in the clubhouse. They had every right to ask him to scale back and LaRoche had every right to retire. Clearly he is perfectly happy with that decision.
The White Sox, by the way, are 8-5 in the early going, so if the players are upset the LaRoches are no longer around the team, it hasn’t shown up in their play.
