Adam LaRoche has ‘zero regrets’ after retiring from White Sox
no longer be in the clubhouse.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from former Chicago White Sox designated hitter Adam LaRoche. LaRoche and the Sox briefly dominated the news cycle this spring after he abruptly retired when the club told him his son Drake could[Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now]
LaRoche walked away from the game quietly, putting out a press release to explain his decision. The White Sox got off to a good start (though they’ve lost three straight) and everyone pretty much moved on.
Now that a few weeks have passed, LaRoche has decided to speak publicly about his decision. He sat down with “Good Morning America,” and told the program he has “zero regrets” about retiring.
Shortly after he retired, LaRoche made similar comments to Tim Keown of ESPN.
The big focus of the interview is the fact that LaRoche walked away from $13 million. That was likely done to draw in a bigger audience, though. Thirteen million is a ton of money, sure, but LaRoche has made enough to live comfortably for the rest of his life. The money probably didn’t play a big role in his choice, and he acknowledges as much later in the interview.
For the most part, there’s nothing too shocking or controversial in the interview. LaRoche seems happy with his decision and is enjoying time with his family now. He does bring up some of the drama between he and team president Kenny Williams, but doesn’t really go into detail or give new information.
LaRoche doesn’t discuss, or wasn’t asked about, Chris Sale’s tirade against Williams in the days after LaRoche’s retirement. For a while there, it seemed like the White Sox locker room was fractured due to the split between the front office and the players. That wasn’t addressed.

So … yeah … that’s about it. For all the drama and panic the story caused in the spring, everything died down pretty quickly. And while LaRoche could have taken the opportunity to lash out against the White Sox while he’s making the media rounds, he didn’t do that. The White Sox are no longer talking about the situation, so it appears nothing more will come of it.
For now, LaRoche is happy and the White Sox aren’t a complete mess. That’s a huge reversal based on where things stood a couple weeks ago.
