2 defensive linemen leave Michigan State
Two Michigan State defensive linemen have left the program.
Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio announced Monday night that Craig Evans and Montez Sweat, both sophomores, are no longer with the team “for personal reasons.” The change is “effective immediately.”
Evans, a 6-foot-2, 307-pound defensive tackle, saw plenty of action for the Spartans in 2015 as a redshirt freshman, logging 21 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack while appearing in all 14 games. He also saw brief action in 2014 before redshirting.

Sweat, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound defensive end, showed flashes for the Spartans but could not quite make it out of Dantonio’s dog house. Sweat was suspended for much of the 2015 season, but had been practicing this spring. He was recently listed with the second team defense on MSU’s spring depth chart.
Overall, Sweat finishes his tenure at MSU with four tackles and half a sack.
Like Sweat, Evans also dealt with disciplinary issues, serving a suspension during spring ball in 2015.

With the Spartans replacing three starters on the defensive line, including All-Big Ten performer Shilique Calhoun, the two were expected to see increased roles for the defending Big Ten champions in 2016.
