Titans host movie night at stadium, forget to turn sprinklers off
The Tennessee Titans became the talk of Nashville last week, also taking the NFL by storm, with a fascinating trade of the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
So perhaps their built-up goodwill following that move will make what render what happened to some few area residents who recently visited Nissan Stadium … water under the bridge.
Titans season-ticket holders were invited to the stadium for movie night and were caught off guard when, mid-film, the field’s water sprinklers went off at their normally programmed time. Someone on the grounds crew didn’t get the movie memo and forgot to shut them off, apparently.
Watch the deluge unfold:
The movie? It was 2015 release “Minions,” a kid-friendly film, which naturally brought a crowd that was very much wet behind the ears. (OK. We’ll stop.) And this was no “Rocky Horror Picture Show”-like effect. It clearly was a mistake.
Hilariously, the movie’s trailer begins with a scene over open water. You can’t make this stuff up.
The Titans apologized for the snafu, sending out a statement to the Tennessean to explain what went wrong:
“Some sprinklers went off for about 30-45 seconds in one quadrant of the field, which was unfortunate and unexpected since we had changed the timers for the sprinklers. We had a good turnout of our season ticket members and their families and realize it didn’t make for a great night for those who got wet, and for that we apologize.”
Go ahead and use this as a metaphor for the team’s recent cold snap, the trade, the forecast for the upcoming season or whatever you want. We’ve used up our fill of water fun here.
