If you weren’t watching the game, then perhaps you spotted it on social media.
The sign quickly went viral after it appeared on the Nationals broadcast during the fifth inning, immediately following Bryce Harper’s two-run home run. And it immediately had people questioning whether or not it was the dumbest typo in the history of sports signs, or perhaps the most genius way to get attention.
Apparently (and thankfully?) it was the latter, because it sounds like this fan had a plan all along.
The message reads:
“Best sign to get Bryce Harper’s autograph?”
“I am going to the Phillies game this Saturday, and of course going to batting practice. Last time I went I got lucky and scored Kershaw’s autograph. What would be a funny sign to make him (Harper) come over? Ideas: Bryce Babes (2 guys holding the sign), ” traveled 4,000 miles to see Bruce Harper.” (purposely misspelled). Thoughts?”
Kids these days. They’ll do anything for attention, or an autograph.
Credit where it’s due though, that’s one clever way to get noticed. We’re just not sure yet if it got Bryce Harper’s attention.

Of course, it’s not completely far-fetched to think someone could make such an error either. Bruce and Bryce aren’t far off. And hey, Harper’s own manager Dusty Baker kept calling him ‘Royce’ during spring training.
Mistakes can happen, even with household names and worldwide brands like Bryce Harper.
