Vin Scully explains how Madison Bumgarner once saved a baby rabbit
We hope you joined us for the MLB Free Game of the Day on Yahoo Sports on Friday night.
If you did, you were treated to yet another classic story as only the great Vin Scully call tell it. If you missed it, that’s OK too, but we hope you’ll join us for Saturday’s free game between the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies, or even Sunday’s, featuring the New York Mets and Cleveland Indians.

In the meantime, we’ll fill you in on story time with Vin.
The story centered around San Francisco Giants starter Madison Bumgarner and how he, along with his wife, once miraculously saved the life of a baby rabbit that had been eaten by a snake.
Yes, you read that correctly. There’s the audio version, which you can listen to above. And here’s the text version, which must be read in Vin Scully’s voice for full effect.
Of course, Scully weaved the story flawlessly into his broadcast, never once missing a pitch or losing the flow. That’s why we often define him as professional sports greatest storyteller and, on a larger scale, a true national treasure.

As for the moral of Scully’s story, that was undoubtedly the best part.
“So I guess, really, the moral to the whole story about the rabbit and the snake: You’ve gotta somehow survive, you’ve gotta somehow battle back. A lesson well taught for all of us.”
Right again, Mr. Scully.
