Fan hit by ball behind net, removed on stretcher
During Friday night’s White Sox-Rays game at Tropicana Field, a woman was struck in the eye area by a foul ball off the bat of Tampa Bay DH Steven Souza. After a delay, she was removed on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital. At present, there has been no word on her condition.
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that, although upgraded protective netting is in place, the ball made it through a triangular opening designed for television cameras.

Topkin has additional details on Souza’s reaction after he realized what had happened. Here he is in the stands shortly after:

Here’s the gap in the netting through which the ball apparently passed:

Per Topkin, the fan is still being evaluated, and no more updates are likely on Friday.
