Bad news from the world of the Mets on Saturday. Right-hander Jacob deGrom has been placed on the bereavement/medical emergency list due to an issue with his newborn son.
DeGrom placed on bereavement family medical emergency list. Related to the baby. #Mets.

DeGrom’s wife gave birth to their son this past Monday. He is the couple’s first child. The nature of the issue was not disclosed for obvious reasons. The family wants to keep it private.
A lat injury has sidelined deGrom for more than a week now, and he was unable to complete Friday’s bullpen session. By rule, he must remain on the medical emergency list at least three days but no more than seven days. deGrom was not scheduled to pitch any of those days anyway because of the lat issue.
Clearly deGrom’s family emergency is far more important than his lat strain or the team’s games on the field. Whatever the problem, we send out best wishes to deGrom and his family.
