The Rangers and veteran third baseman Adrian Beltre have completed a two-year contract extension, T.R. Sullivan tweets. The team has yet to confirm, but the new contract is reportedly worth $36 million. Beltre, 37, is in the final year of the six-year, $96 million deal that he signed before the 2011 season.
This season, Beltre is batting .310/.370/.571 after 11 games. For his career, he owns an OPS+ of 116 to go with 415 home runs and 2,780 hits. Across parts of 19 seasons, Beltre has won four Gold Gloves and four Silver Sluggers. He has also made the All-Star team four times and five times finished in the top 10 of the MVP balloting.
While multiyear extensions aren’t often given to 37-year-olds, Beltre — who’s looking very much like a future Hall of Famer — has put up a 133 OPS+ since joining the Rangers in time for his age-32 season. He has also continued to play defense at a high level.
