Phillies pitcher Daniel Stumpf suspended 80 games for PED use
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Daniel Stumpf was handed an 80-game suspension Thursday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
The 25-year-old left-hander is in his first major-league season and had made three appearances for the Phillies, allowing more earned runs (three) than he recorded outs (two). He was acquired by Philadelphia from Kansas City through the Rule 5 draft in the offseason. The Phillies called up left-hander Elvis Araujo from Triple-A to take Stumpf’s spot on the roster.

Stumpf was found guilty of using dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, an anabolic steroid designed to increase speed and strength.
MLB has continued to make progress when it comes to eliminating PED use, but Stumpf’s suspension once again shows the sport still isn’t completely clean and likely won’t be for some time, if ever.
