Austin Allen named Arkansas’ starting quarterback
Austin Allen is Arkansas’ starting quarterback.
Coach Bret Bielema made the announcement Thursday afternoon. Allen, set to be a redshirt junior, is the younger brother of Brandon Allen, the Razorbacks’ starter in 2015.
“The fifth Arkansas edge is we earn everything,” Bielema said in a statement. “That is why today I announced to the team that Austin Allen is our starting quarterback.”
“Earn everything” was in all caps in the Arkansas statement. We made it lowercase to save you from the screaming.

Austin Allen was his brother’s backup in 2015. He had three appearances in 2015 and has thrown 19 career passes. He threw three passes last season and completed one. It was a 35-yard touchdown pass against Tennessee-Martin.
Allen, a native of Fayetteville, was a three-star prospect in the class of 2013. He beat out redshirt freshmen Ricky Town and Ty Storey for the starting job.
