SportsDay’s Jon Machota answered questions in a live chat Friday. Here are some highlights.
Question: I’m curious as to what you think of the other NFC East teams’ draft needs in the first round. Who should us fans hope those teams DON’T get their hands on?
Jon Machota: In regards to the other NFC East teams, Ezekiel Elliott and Laquon Treadwell would be the ones Cowboys fans should most be concerned about. Not only are they two of the top offensive weapons in this class, but they fit perfectly with teams needs and where the Giants and Eagles are drafting. Cowboys fans should be a little nervous if Elliott goes to the Eagles at No. 8 and then Treadwell goes to the Giants at 10. The Cowboys have interest in both players, but No. 4 might be too early to pull the trigger.
Question: Are you ready to call Paxton Lynch a sure-fire lock for the first round?
Jon Machota: Sure-fire might be a little strong, but I doubt he makes it into Round 2. If he stays on the board into the late 20s, I think a team will trade into the first round to grab him. If Johnny Manziel is a first round pick, I don’t see why Paxton Lynch is not.
Question: The Razorbacks’ Alex Collins was a very productive running back in the SEC (West); what’s the line on him for this year’s draft? Mid-rounder?
Jon Machota: Yeah, somewhere around the third round. Depending on who is available, I think he’d be a good fit for the Cowboys.
