Kyle Schwarber’s NLDS home run ball is back in its rightful place
Rejoice, Chicago Cubs fans, Kyle Schwarber’s home run ball from last season’s NLDS has been restored to its rightful place. Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney confirmed that the team has put the ball back on top of the right field scoreboard.

Kenney appeared on the “Mully and Hanley” show on WSCR-AM 670, and told the hosts that the ball is back where it belongs. The club took it down from the scoreboard during the offseason because they didn’t want any fans trying to climb up and steal it.
With the Cubs back in town for their home opener, the ball has been put back on the scoreboard. Presumably, it will live there for the rest of the season and into the playoffs should things go the Cubs’ way again.
Schwarber’s now infamous blast came during Game 4 of the NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals. With the Cubs already up a run in the bottom of the seventh, Schwarber clobbered a pitch from Kevin Siegrsit, sending it atop the scoreboard in right.
With Schwarber now out for the season following a devastating knee injury, the ball will take on another meaning. Schwarber’ presence will be felt at Wrigley Field, even though he’ll spend much of the year away rehabbing.

While that’s a sad thought, at least Schwarber can take solace in the fact that a piece of him will be at the park as his team continues its march to the World Series. And if Schwarber needs a reminder of what lies ahead once he gets back on the field, he can always head to the park and visit the ball he sent to the top of the scoreboard.
