Rule The World wins the Grand National (The Associated Press)
Teenage jockey David Mullins won the Grand National on his first ride in the world’s toughest steeplechase, steering home Rule The World in wet conditions at odds of 33-1 on Saturday. ”What an aptly named horse,” said mud-splattered 19-year-old Mullins, who only turned professional two years ago and is the nephew of leading Irish trainer Willie Mullins. Rule The World was third after jumping the last of the 30 fences, and outpaced The Last Samuri – the 8-1 joint favorite – and Vics Canvas – a 100-1 outsider – in a thrilling chase to the winning post.
