Ken Griffey Jr. made a career out of defying limits and defying gravity on the baseball field. Those are two big reasons why the baseball Hall of Fame will opens its doors to him at the end of July.

It’s also why the folks at Nike are paying tribute to Griffey with this completely awesome photoshop. A photoshop that actually shows him going beyond those limits at Fenway Park in Boston.
Again, the photo is not real, but it’s certainly symbolic of a career that exploded above and beyond even the highest of expectations.
Nike’s tribute comes ahead of the Seattle Mariners home opener on Friday night against the Oakland A’s. Griffey will be honored in a pregame ceremony and will handle the first pitch duties. If you’re interested in watching, the entire ceremony will be streamed live on Mariners.com and shown on Root Sports in Seattle.
Of course, Seattle holds a special place in Griffey’s heart. The Mariners made him the first overall pick in the 1987 amateur draft. After debuting in 1989, Griffey spent parts of 13 seasons in Seattle, including two alongside his father. He hit 417 of his 630 career homers in their uniform, including the first and last of his storied career.

He’s an icon in Seattle and all throughout the northwest, which is where Nike is also based. They’ve gone hand-in-hand for years, and it’s only fitting a Nike tribute highlights the first of many special days coming for Ken Griffey Jr. during this baseball season.
