Fire breaks out at U.S. Cellular Field, won’t affect home opener
A fire broke out early Friday morning in a first-floor storage room at U.S. Cellular Field, just over 12 hours before the Chicago White Sox’s 2016 home opener against the Cleveland Indians.
Firefighters responded to the the call around 2:25 a.m. CT according to the Chicago Tribune and had the blaze out by 3 a.m. with some help from the stadium’s sprinkler system. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital to be treated with non-life-threathening injuries.

Sheena Quinn, a spokeswoman for the team, told the Tribune the storage room contained posters, giveaways and other promotional material. The extent of the damage has yet to be assessed and an investigation has been launched to determine what caused the fire to start.
Fortunately no one was seriously injured and the White Sox’s first home game of the season with first pitch set for 3:10 p.m on Friday will go ahead as planned.
