Report: LSU CB Donte Jackson academically ineligible this spring
LSU cornerback Donte Jackson won’t be with the football team for the rest of spring practice.
Jackson, who was also running track this spring, is academically ineligible according to the Baton Rouge Advocate. The newspaper cited two sources on the report Tuesday afternoon.
The report also said Jackson, a sophomore in 2016, is expected to qualify academically over the summer and regain eligibility in time for the football season. Jackson had 26 tackles in 2015 and had one interception. He’d been practicing with LSU’s starting unit during spring practices.

In a separate Advocate story, Jackson talked about splitting time with the football team and the track team as a sprinter. He said “you never really have an off day” and when he wasn’t participating in football practice he was attending track practice. Since he’s ineligible for football practice, he’s also unable to compete with the track team.
“Some things a lot of athletes want to do coming in,” Jackson said last week in his first interview opportunity since August. “I’m blessed to get a chance to try it out as a freshman. I love it, love the track team. I love being around those guys as much as I love being around the football players.”
Jackson was a four-star recruit in the class of 2015. A native of Jefferson, Louisiana, he was the No. 5 cornerback in the country and the No. 3 prospect in the state according to Rivals.
