Rangers offense seeking more production, same result against M’s
The Texas Rangers are a perfect 1-0 to open the 2016 season. That’s the most important thing here, the team managed a win on opening day. Really, that’s all that matters.

At the same time, the club is probably not all that pleased with its performance. Sure, the Rangers came away with a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday, but they did so despite only picking up one hit. That’s something that hasn’t been done in a long time.
But, hey, a win is a win. While the club would have probably preferred it come during a more dominant performance, style points don’t count in the standings.
At the same time, facing Felix Hernandez is no easy task, so it’s tough to really blame the Rangers offense for its struggles. Still, the team is probably looking for more against Hisashi Iwakuma on Tuesday.
That matchup will be the focus of Yahoo Sports’ Free MLB Game of the Day. The contest, which starts at 8:05 p.m. ET, can be viewed at sports.yahoo.com.
Iwakuma has been solid against Texas over his career, going 8-3 with a 3.43 ERA over 13 starts. Can he continue to quiet the Rangers’ bats en route to a victory? Or will the Rangers offense remain stuck in spring training mode?
[Elsewhere: Zack Greinke may have pitched with the flu on opening day]
In the end, it may not even matter. As Texas proved Monday, even the slightest opening can lead to a victory with this club.
