Watson fearful of things he ‘shouldn’t be,’ including crowds
Bubba Watson is a complicated man.
The two-time Masters champion does and says things inside and outside the ropes that cause a number of people to scratch their heads and deride the Florida native for his behavior. However, over the years, it has also become clear that those are the actions of a man who deals with a hypersensitive to things going on around him.
In an interview with “60 Minutes” to air on Sunday, Watson rattles off some of the litany things he fears.
“I have a lot of mental issues … I’m just so fearful of things, which I shouldn’t be,” said Watson. “Scared of heights … buildings falling on me … the dark. Scared of crowds. In between holes is really scary to me, because there’s so many people that close to you.”
He added, “I’m just scared of people … in general.”
The loneliness of golf was probably some of its allure to Watson, who also has fine-tuned an imaginative approach to the sport, seeing shots few could conjure, much less execute. With a win already in 2016 at the Northern Trust Open, Watson, now ranked fourth in the world, has showed the form that could win him a third, even-yeared green jacket.
