Opening 25-year-old baseball cards with Adam Eaton

When the 1991 allotment of baseball cards were released, Chicago White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton was 2. So it’s safe to say he wasn’t collecting back then.

But when I showed up at the White Sox spring training facility with my box of unopened 1991 Score packs, his face lit up. Like everyone else we’ve highlighted in this video series — Rajai Davis in Episode 1 and Brad Ziegler and Tyler Clippard in Episode 2 — Eaton was psyched to rip into some old baseball cards. Even if he was still in diapers when these came out.

As we’ve discussed previously, these cards have been in my garage, waiting to be opened. They’re not worth much, but the novelty is great. Everybody loves digging into a pack of baseball cards whether they’re from this year or 25 years ago.

In Eaton’s case, he didn’t find his manager Robin Ventura — I was really hoping we would — but he did find a couple memorable names that Chicago baseball fans know, and we found a player that Eaton himself was often compared to when he was younger.
