Oklahoma dismisses ex-starting safety Byrd
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops announced on Monday that senior safety Hatari Byrd was dismissed from the Sooners for a violation of team rules.
Stoops did not offer any specifics as to why Byrd was being dismissed, but he did note that Byrd would be able to transfer.
“He’ll [transfer] with our blessing and make somebody a good hand,” Stoops said to reporters after practice, per The Oklahoman.
Byrd started 2015 as the starting strong safety but was benched after the loss to Texas. He appeared in 12 games for the Sooners in 2015 and recorded 29 tackles but finished the season well down the safety depth chart.
