Jonathan Quick sticks it to Sharks with save of year candidate (Video)
The best saves are the ones that leave opponents feeling a mixture of befuddlement and frustration.
Such was the face of Logan Couture of the San Jose Sharks in the second period on Monday night, after he took a 2-on-1 pass, fired the puck at a gaping net and then discovered it never actually went in.
Because Jonathan Quick. That’s why.
The Los Angeles Kings goalie lunged to his right after Tommy Wingels completed a pass to Couture – in front of Drew Doughty, playing too deep to deflect it. He stuck out his stick, knocked the puck over him and off the crossbar, where it bounced out of harm’s way.
A save of the year candidate, without question.
Couture was actually skating away in celebration as Quick made the save, and then reacted with the incredulity of Kylo Ren learning that a traitor and a girl helped BB-8 escape Jakku. Luckily, there was no control console to destroy.
And it was Logan’s birthday too. What a party-pooper that Jonathan Quick is…
