Syracuse chest bump doesn’t go well for one player involved
Syracuse is making a surprising run through the NCAA tournament to an Elite Eight game Sunday against Virginia. So the embarrassing momemt walk-on Christian White experienced Friday night during Syracuse’s 63-60 win over Gonzaga won’t be his lasting memory of the postseason.
The Orange had just completed a strong sequence of plays on the court when a timeout came and White ran out to congratulate teammates. He saw fellow senior Michael Gbinije and the two jumped in the air to chest bump. But Gbinije turned and more or less hip-checked White who tumbled to the ground.
[Georgia Tech made the correct choice firing Brian Gregory]
Gbinije went on to score 20 points and give his team the lead for good in the final minute with an offensive rebound and basket. White didn’t play in the game but he was in the unusual position of being interviewed about his big moment after the game. He handled it like a pro.
