Lakers' Russell sprains ankle; X-rays negative
LOS ANGELES — Lakers rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell left Friday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets after suffering a moderate right ankle sprain in the first half.
A Lakers spokesman said X-rays came back negative and that the team will know more Saturday about whether Russell will have to miss time.
Russell, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 draft, started and had two points and a rebound in 12 minutes. He suffered the injury when he stepped on the foot of an opposing player. Russell crumpled to the court in pain and had to be helped off it by two teammates.
Russell came into Friday’s game averaging 13.3 points, 3.5 assists and 3.4 rebounds.
