Vin Scully ’embarrassed’ to be in middle of Dodgers’ TV dispute
TV dispute rages on and Vin Scully has found himself smack dab in the middle of the fire.
The Los Angeles Dodgers’Time Warner Cable has been unable to get DirecTV and other Southern California cable providers to add SportsNet LA to their lineup since the channel came into existence in 2014, which means close to 70% of the market doesn’t have access to the exclusive home to all Dodgers games at home.

In an effort to change that, TWC has offered to lower the price of SNLA for this season and has offered a simple motivation for why the others should take the deal: Do it for Vin, who’s entering what’s more than likely his last year in the broadcast booth.
From there Dodgers president Stan Kasten, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and the mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti all brought up Scully as the main reason why they hope a resolution is on the way. While Scully is understandably beloved by all parties involved, the entire situation and attention happens to be making him uncomfortable.
Said Scully: “It’s really kind of embarrassing for me. If it will serve in any possible way to get the fans to see more games, that is the thing I would be rooting for.”
And really that’s all we can all root for. Scully is preparing to do what he’s done for the last 66 years: call the bulk of the Dodgers’ games and do so with grace, dignity and a bit of that classic flair.

Scully has never wanted to be the story, especially if the story is a nasty corporate negotiation like this one. He does deserve better than that, even if it was done with the most noble intentions in mind.
