Kevin Durant’s new sneakers have built-in near-knee-length socks
Before the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Thursday night game against the Utah Jazz, Kevin Durant took the floor rocking a special version of his new Nike KD8 Elite sneakers. We’d already seen the Creamsicle orange colorway of the kicks, which come specially equipped with a “calf-length compression sock” to offer more lower-leg and ankle support. We had not, however, seen a built-in compression sock quite this pronounced:

Nike Basketball design director Leo Chang had teased this bodysuit-style special edition during the recent unveiling of the KD8 Elite, according to Sole Collector:
According to Chang, there’s also an even more radical makeup of the KD8 that the player will debut when the NBA Playoffs officially get here.
“There’s one he’s actually going to wear that goes all the way up to his knees. That’ll be pretty cool. Just from a product standpoint, we’re looking on how to blend the tight that he normally wears—in sock or shoe,” Chang said. “What if we were to literally integrate all that together into one product—so that it almost feels seamless where you don’t know where the next layer starts. That was the idea behind that—to push for something more futuristic.”
Evidently, in the future, all of our sneakers will be knee-high catsuits.
Update your files and expectations, please, and prepare to pony up that dough … unless, of course, you’d rather just wait for next year’s model.
