Bees take over flagstand in Xfinity Series practice (Video)
The flagstand can be a dangerous place. It’s why the the person in charge of displaying the flags at NASCAR races wears a helmet.
A helmet wouldn’t have done much to combat the bees the flagstand at Auto Club Speedway got swarmed with on Friday. Xfinity Series officials were forced to abandon the flagstand during practice because of the bee swarm.
Given that it happened in practice, it really wasn’t a big deal. NASCAR can turn the caution lights on from the tower if there’s an incident and radio teams to restart practice. But had this happened during the race, we’re guessing some drastic measures would have been necessary.
