Big Ten football: Ranking the league QBs 1-to-14 heading into spring – PennLive.com
7. Wes Lunt, Illinois
With Christian Hackenberg gone, this guy might be the most beleaguered decent quarterback in the league. The Illinois native played as a freshman at Oklahoma State, then transferred and meshed well with coordinator Bill Cubit when pre-owned auto salesman Tim Beckman hired him on, then actually became the interim head coach when Beckman was fired. Lunt performed admirably despite a horrendous receiving corps that consistently dropped his passes. Now, offensive guru Cubit is suddenly out and Lovie Smith, a lifetime defensive specialist, is in as head coach – often a QB’s nightmare. For now, Lunt is the starter but could be pushed by 3-star recruit Chayce Crouch. Lunt has a strong arm and the experience; nobody else among the candidates has seen the field much. But it’s all up to Smith and new OC Garrick McGee, who will be the fourth of Lunt’s college career.
